Blood and Scars, the team of Alexandra Kelly and Devin Hawk have recently been contracted by the Hate City Syndicate which is from where we’re directed to this video. Devin and Alexandra are in the city of Dauphin where they will compete in a match under the KSC Wrestling banner. They’re located currently in Devin’s hotel room. Alex has gotten dressed and ready to go to the venue, but Devin has just woken up. His hair is disheveled and he just looks a like a general train wreck. Bags have formed under “The Ripper” ‘s eyes, indicating a lack of sleep which can’t be a good thing when headed into a match.
Alex sits on the edge of the bed, watching Devin as he walks around the room grabbing his belongings and firing them into the suitcase he travels with. His movements are zombie-esque. Her eyes follow him closely, and as each second passes, they begin to form a worried look as she watches. It was around this time that Devin picked up, seemingly, the last item. His wrestling gear was packed, and he carelessly threw his workout clothing on top of it. Spending the week in this city, he had a lot of time to get last workouts in before his match tonight. This last item he was packing was a photograph. Since he held it in his hands, we couldn’t see what of, but him looking down at it made him stop dead in his tracks.
“Are we going to talk about it, or continue our wonderful chat of silence and awkwardness?’’
She was looking at him with those dark brown eyes and for a moment there was nothing than his little sister. Not the killing machine or the one that was always thirsty for blood. Care and love seemed to reflect in her eyes. Her words broke him out of the trace like state he was in. His eyes shot up to her, and with a loud exhale he moved to the bed and sat down next to her. This gave her the chance to look down at the photograph in his hand. It was of him and his ex-fiance Sarah.
“It’s hard to talk about, Alex. I haven’t told anyone what happened. Not even Gavin.”
He mentioned his trainer and mentor’s name, Gavin Masterson. A man whom Devin spent a lot of time with, and a man who obviously knew something was wrong with Devin but wouldn’t pry into his personal life. While they were friends, Gavin was doing the job that he was hired to do, train Devin.
“It will never be easy to talk about such things, Devin. But that is the point, you find people that will not push you into the direction. You can tell me or not, I am here. Just remember that even if not by blood, you now got a family.”
They had been spending quite some time during the past weeks, yet neither of them ever got down to talk about the past. Sure Devin had a little peek of what was going inside the head of Alex, yet she never fully let anyone in. Not even Elena. It was not her style to vent or to complain.- leave alone talking about her loveless childhood. By now she had lost the fear of being close to Hawk though. Accepting that their had a strong bond now. So without further words she would lay her small hands on his, waiting for whatever he was willing to share.
“Okay” He said with another heavy exhale. His head lowered just a little, his eyes returning to the photograph of him with the gorgeous blonde. “I met her in London. I was furthering my discipline in my kickboxing, and she was in school. It was a random meeting, at a pub downtown. I stopped by after a class, she was there with school mates. We bumped into each other at the bar, and began to chat. She was unlike anyone I’ve ever met before..” He was forcing out these words as he remembered. “For some reason, I was able to connect with her. As you know, it’s hard for me to do that…”
Alex would nod her head, but he continued.
“Time progressed, and I fell for her. Hard. I’ve never loved anything quite like I’ve loved her. I opened up about my childhood, and she was there to keep me strong. She was my rock, as people say. My kickboxing skills advanced highly, I even competed in tournaments - and she would always be there. No matter her work, or her studying...she was always there. I began to draw interest in professional wrestling and sought out Gavin in Toronto. Through a chain of emails and phone calls, I arranged to be trained by him in Canada. What did she do? She transferred schools. It was a process, but she did it. I told her not to, to stay in London and to finish there - that I would be back when I was finished. But she was always there, by my side.”
He took a brief pause, but he never removed his eyes from the picture.
“We rented an apartment. Not far away from the studio where Gavin and Rielle set up shop for training. It wasn’t much. Looking back on it...I’m rather ashamed I allowed her to settle there. It was above a pizza store, in a not-so-good part of the city. Well. She was busy with papers. Normally she would come out with me. I trained almost every night in one way or another - wrestling, kickboxing, or gym - and she was usually come with me. Of course this led to late nights for her to complete work, but she was happy. This night, she didn’t come. I told her not to. We actually got into a little argument over it. I could tell she was home sick, and being at my side all of the time calmed her down. I should have let her come...”
Alexandra all this time was sitting still, the only thing that moved was her hand rubbing against his. She had been picking up every word he had been speaking, her mind starting to race. It was almost as if she had been there, seeing all of this. And that also made it possible to produce the next scene.- in her head. Yet she had to hear him say it, before going further with her assumptions. She would look down at the picture now once again, before taking a deep breath. Alex would lightly nudge him, not in a forceful manner.- but enough for him to realise that she was listening.
“The night didn’t feel right. Gavin noticed it, Rielle noticed it. I was angry...I was… I don’t know. It just didn’t feel right. After the lesson, I went back home - with every intention of making things right with her. As I got back home, I found a note taped to the door. She would often do this when she would leave. Little notes like this I took for granted toward the end.” He sighed, though continued.. “In it, she apologized for being clingy, she said. I was the last shred of London she had with her at this point. She would explain that she got a phone call from home. Her mother died. She had held it in, and was looking for the right time to tell me. She wanted to go back. She ended the note with she was going to the store, and would be back. … I sat on the couch, my mind was a mess. It wasn’t ten minutes later that I received a phone call. It was the store owner from down stairs. I ran down after he told me. Sarah walked to the nearby corner shop, and on her way back was robbed…and killed in the alley beside our home.”
It was hard to take all of that in, especially after always guessing about possible events. Alexandra would sit there very still, which was rather uncommon for her. She felt her eyes burn, knowing what would happen next.- but it didn’t. Instead she would take his hand now fully, locking fingers with his. Hawk seemed to be back there, lost in the events of that night. It would take several moments for him to even notice she was there.- or at least that was the feeling she had gotten.
”So that was Sarah… your Sarah… .”
Her slim fingers were running over the fabric of the picture, rather gentle and slow. It was as if she tried to take it out of his strong fingers. Not to take it away from him, only to get his mind back to the present. Alex felt him hanging on to it, his fingers almost like locks.
”Hawk look at me… .”
His eyes were focused on the picture. He spent his nights crying over her. He blamed himself for this, as you could tell. This moment was not a moment he wanted to cry. So to prevent that, his eyes shifted from the picture to Alex as she asked him to do.
”After what I tell you now, you either will hate me.- or kill me. Either is fine and deserving. But, this was not your fault. None of this was. If it wouldn’t have been this night Devin, then another. I am sorry but that is how life treats us. You did not deserve that, neither did she. What I try to say though is something totally different. You, even if not for a lifetime, had something to treasure. Which is a lot more than most people can say about themselves. You had someone that loved you for all you were and could be. And even though you were robbed of her happy ever after, you had it. I did not know your Sarah, but I know this much.- if she loved you the way i assume. She wouldn’t want you to haunt yourself with this for an entire life. Never forget that is one thing. Never stop missing. But allow yourself to see the gifts you are given.”
This time she was the one that would take a small pause. It had been the first time since months she allowed herself to talk about feelings like that. That well praised heart was still somewhere inside of her, yet locked away. She would rub over his cheek a moment, then looking at their hands.
”We are who we are. Right? And if there is one thing I can say about you Hawk, I am proud of you. Maybe that does not mean as much as it should, but it is the truth. There will never be another like her and that is the bittersweet truth of life. But at a certain point you will have to understand this.- you did not leave her. She did not leave you. Life just is a bitch you wanna smack in the face. Devin Hawk is a killer. Someone that can destroy the world in the blink of an eye. But also he is not alone anymore. I am not saying it does matter, but you got someone that will never leave your side… .”
He remained silent as she spoke. It’s clear Devin cared for Alex, as he told her this. His eyes remain on hers, listening to every word she said until she was finished, then he let them drop back down to the photograph. Her eyes followed his, and she watched as he leaned forward placing the photograph in the suitcase. Unlike everything else in there, he safely tucked it away under a pile of clothes as to not damage it. In return, he pulled out a piece of paper that had been folded.
“This is the last note she ever left me. I take it everywhere I go. … Thanks, Alex. Thanks for your words, they’re comforting. And you’re right. I will never have her, will never love anyone like her...but I will also never be alone. I have you, and I have memories. That’s all I need.”
He would look down at the note, before placing it in her hands for her to read it - should she wish…
“I’ll finish getting ready. We have pre-match interviews and such…”
He stood up from the bed and moved into the washroom, closing the door behind him for him to shower. Leaving Alex alone. She was sitting there for what felt like a lifetime, debating with herself if she was ready. It had been a while since she allowed any emotions, especially some that weren’t truly her own. Then again she realised something in this very moment, that was bullshit. You could lock out stuff for a good while, yet it would come back in the blink of an eye. She care for him. He knew it. They did not have to speak it out, so seeing him like that.- hurt. Not that he was smiling an awful lot normally.- unless he would knock someone’s teeth out.
”You can do that… .”
Very carefully to not destroy anything she would unfold the note, starting to read.
She was sitting there in silence, probably reading it another three times. It took the crack of the door to make her look up, cleaning her face. There were some red spots on her cheek, which he hopefully did not notice. Hawk was returning to the main room, obviously looking for something. Alex on the other hand was folding together the paper again, putting it carefully back into his suitcase. He was almost back at the bathroom, as she walked after him.
”Wait!”
Almost surprised how loud her voice could be, she would stand only an inch away from him. Without any more words she would wrap her arms around him. Not a brief hug or one she planned to stop quickly. Her head was resting on his chest, having a hard time even getting around his waist. If that was what family felt like, it was a thing to take care of. Ending the video.

“Dearest Devin,
I love you. You know I love you. I cherish every moment we have and will continue to spend together. Tonight is not the way I wanted it to go.
I don't know how you feel, you don't usually express many emotions to me, other than "I love you". So I'm sorry if I'm a little clingy ever since moving here. From the moment we first met, I was addicted to you, Devin.
Truth is, I miss home. Yes, I wanted to come here with you and take this very big step in our lives together. You proposed to me and promised me eternity together. This is just the first step. But, what I need to tell you is going to hurt.
I received a message the other day. My mother passed away. I've spent every night crying. I'm not myself during the day and when you ask what's wrong, I lie. Tell you everything's okay that I'm just tired. Truth is, I came to a decision.
I've been waiting for the right moment to tell you. Tell you about her passing. Tell you about how I want to move back. This is not us breaking up. This is not us taking a break. I need to be home. I need to be with my family, especially at a time like this. You were the last bit of home that I had left, Devin, but I need to be back.
You'll find this note, and we'll have a proper discussion. But I had to get this off of my chest. After your training is complete, I will be waiting for you in London.
I love you, Devin. I love you more than you could ever imagine. And even when I go back home, you'll never be alone. I'll be right here with you. In your thoughts, and in your heart.
Yours Eternally.
Sarah.”
